WHO WE ARE

The project to “Set the Record Straight” is inspired by the writings of Bob Avakian. Our mission is to take on the distortions, misrepresentations, and supporting scholarship that hold such sway in academia about the first wave of socialist revolutions, in the Soviet Union in 1917-1956 and China in 1949-1976.

The project addresses the relevance of the historical experience of socialism to the world today. Our goal is to:

• provoke re-examination, promote debate, and stimulate research among students and professors;
• respond to distortions in the media and affect broad public opinion;
• contribute to a situation where there will be a more two-sided discussion of these vital questions;
• create heightened interest in the socialist project.

WHAT WE ARE DOING

Set the Record Straight is undertaking a wide range of educational and outreach activities:

• Speeches by Maoist political economist and author Raymond Lotta at Harvard, Stanford, University of London, and other campuses about the experience of socialist revolution;


• Broad distribution of materials and open-air debate on college campuses;


• Forums and debates on topical issues and controversial books like Mao: The Unknown Story;


• Research and publication of fact sheets, articles, and other educational materials;
  
• Networking with progressive scholars in various academic fields;


• Commentary and debate in the media;


• Developing an informational website.
